Wine Tasting Notes for Tagaris 2007 Eliseo Silva Chardonnay
Tagaris Winery is a family-owned estate winery with two large vineyards. The 200 acre Arete Vineyards (Greek, meaning the culmination of all things good), straddles the “Top of the Hill” at Radar Hill near Othello, Washington and was planted in 1983. Gewurztraminer, Muller-Thurgau, Chenin Blanc and Riesling are grown on the northern slopes, and Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah are grown on the south-facing slope. The younger Alice Vineyards (named after Michael Taggares’ mother, Alice) lies along the south slopes of Saddle Mountain in the newly-designated Waluke AVA. Eliseo Silva is the vineyard manager at Tagaris wines and this Chardonnay is a tribute to him and others like him whom without this wine would not be possible. Made from 100% Chardonnay with 30% being barrel fermented. Balanced and polished, this Chardonnay emphasizes ripe apple fruit touched with vanilla spice, butterscotch, and toasty oak; crisp citrus notes makes this beauty a complex, harmonious whole. The wine is perfect to serve now. Serve well chilled with poached trout, baked oysters, grilled tuna steaks, and cream based soups. 1500 cases produced.
